Ahead of the group’s final ever live show at Village Underground on 8th June, audio-visual 11-piece unit Fake Turins share farewell EP ‘Inheritance’. Set for release on 9th May via Opus Kink-founded Hideous Mink Records (Alien Chicks, The Winches), ‘Inheritance’ spools out a 20+ minute immersion of hedonistic psych-disco freak-out, packed with rhythmic dynamism, luscious instrumentation and ominous atmospheres. From the lysergic explosiveness of ‘The Finch’ and the ramalama riff juggernaut of ‘Beatnik’, to the mournful journeyings of ‘Yr Made of Gold’ and ‘Inheritance II’, Fake Turins’ final mission statement has all their 11 members in Charon’s boat drifting across the River Styx towards a seductive, strobe-lit, groove-laden hell. Drawing apt comparisons with LCD Soundsystem, Roxy Music and Talking Heads, In their brief tenure, the band have garnered praise from indie tastemakers DIY, So Young, Clash, Hard of Hearing, Fred Perry Subculture, Rodeo, Wax, Clunk and Mix it All Up. This is in addition to radio plays from the likes of Steve Lamacq (BBC 6Music), Gemma Bradley (BBC Radio 1), John Kennedy (Radio X) and Amazing Radio. Forming among North-East London’s Warehouse scene in 2018, the group’s CV can boast numerous festival appearances across the UK and Europe, and sell-out shows at iconic London venues The Lexington and Electrowerks, all culminating in one last hurrah at Village Underground on 8th June. With the group so rich in musicians, Fake Turins, since its birth, has also spawned several emerging offshoots - Max Fulcrum & The Win (who play this year’s Latitude Festival), Bollards and Rich Parents. So while ‘Inheritance’ marks the end of one story, it promises the start of many others. Speaking about the EP as a whole - produced/mixed by Syd Kemp (Sinead O’Brien, Spiritualized, Vanishing Twin) - vocalist Dominic Rose explains: “Inheritance’ is the record we always needed to make. To share these musical stories - so many of them written years ago, during the death of my father - and explore the arrangement possibilities of an 11 piece ensemble. This record may be the final part of Turins DNA, woven into our very conception — but our own Inheritance will continue to live on, through ourselves and others.” |
