London-based folk band Sodden Pelt returns with their second single, ‘Last of The Seagulls’, an atmospheric and haunting offering that showcases their signature sound—brooding, raw, and deeply evocative.
The second single off their upcoming debut EP, set for release on the 17th of October via Hideous Mink Records, Sodden Pelt weave an arresting tale of a disillusioned soul stepping out into the storm-laced horizon of demise, with haunting acoustic textures and raw, evocative vocals carrying through a lyrical storm. Built upon a desolate soundscape, where gentle, melancholic acoustic guitar lines set the tone, the subtle interplay between the instruments, including soft percussion and ambient textures, creates a backdrop that evokes the loneliness and quiet turmoil of a stormy coastal horizon. The production is sparse but deliberate, allowing the weight of the lyrics and melodies to resonate fully.
When speaking about the track, lead singer Paddy Hornby says: “The Last of The Seagulls' exists as the ornithic equivalent of Lawrence Oates and his nod to the outside abyss. The tale of a disillusioned soul stepping out into the storm-laced horizon of demise.
As the bird sits riddled with the Wendigo-like curse of insatiable hunger,
it decides its abode has nothing left to offer. It mutters its woes to the walls before staggering into the air;
'I am going outside; I may be some time,
I want more.'
Before you is the tragedy of what lies over greed's yonder.”
