GOLDHEART, the psychedelic ensemble led by Dominic Rose (Fake Turins, Enjoyable Listens, Max Fulcrum & The Win...), unveils their debut single ‘Barracuda’ on February 17th via Hideous Mink Records
Providing a cinematic glimpse into the existential, GOLDHEART seamlessly merges the 70s New York disco strut with the mechanical intensity of warped electronica. With echoes of Gary Numan’s futuristic synths, Talking Heads’ jittery rhythms, and St. Vincent’s sharp-edged pop, Barracuda is an intoxicating introduction to a band unafraid to challenge sonic expectations. Their debut single is both immersive and urgent, a track that grips the listener with pulsating basslines, haunting vocals, and an unrelenting groove.
‘Barracuda’ is an invitation to connection, while simultaneously exploring themes of disconnection through a lens of loss and nihilism. Lyrically, ‘Barracuda’ explores themes of disconnection, loss, and the struggle for meaning in a chaotic world. The song embodies a sense of yearning, confronting the contradictions of modern existence with a darkly hypnotic allure. Stuck in a world we don’t understand, we’re all just followers of ᴛʜᴇ ʜᴏʟʏ sᴜɴ—a concept that GOLDHEART continues to unravel throughout their upcoming releases.
Speaking on the track, Dominic Rose of GOLDHEART says “[Barracuda] was Written as a challenge to the human spirit, where much like the myth of Icarus we find ourselves burnt in the heat of the sun. Failing to see our own shortcomings and desiring to be seen as gods, we built a world we couldn’t understand and then torched it. In the plight for immortality we found death.”
On working with Jake Smallwood at Farm Road Studios, Dominic also says “Recorded over a boiling summer down at Farm Road Studios in Brighton with Jake Smallwood. After tracking the band a few sessions were spent sampling the files & instruments to build the ending, driving home the disco edit feel - where lashing industrial sounds of the 80’s meet the vinyl selector feel of the 70’s”
Signed to the ever-eclectic Hideous Mink Records, GOLDHEART joins a roster known for championing bold and innovative acts including Opus Kink, Y, Alien Chicks and Black Bordello . ‘Barracuda’ is the first glimpse of a project that seeks to stir up deep emotions and thought-provoking narratives through sound.
‘Barracuda’ will be available on all major streaming platforms from February 17th. Stay tuned for more from GOLDHEART as they continue their sonic exploration.
