city: BrightonBetter known as the powerhouse bassist in the rising Jazz-Punk group Opus Kink, Sam Abbo ventures into his first solo endeavour with the debut single ‘Pass The Fiddle to The Beast’, released via the Opus Kink-founded label Hideous Mink Records (Opus Kink, Alien Chicks Fake Turins, Black Bordello)
Abbo flaunts his multi-instrumentalist skill set by playing 4 strings, 6 strings, 12 strings, piano and the clarophone. ‘Pass The Fiddle to The Beast’ is the Brighton based songwriter's first single ahead of his already anticipated debut album ‘Add to The Noise’
Offering a raucous and poignant honky-tonk experience, Abbo blends foot-stomping sing-along chorus with a deep exploration of the struggles of alcoholism and the solace found in making music.
Aside from Opus Kink, Abbo has received high praise with his previous project ‘Strange Neighbours’ - Collaborative tracks featuring Hideous Recordings alumni Sienna Bordello (Black Bordello) Maisy Banks (The Winches), Dominic Rose (Fake Turins) on vocals of tracks such as ‘Black Cat Walking’ & ‘Devil On The Scene’ and KAETO (Polydor Records) on ‘Aburrida’ gaining nods from Tastemaker magazines such as Clash, Hard of Hearing and So Young.
‘Black Cat Walking’ featured countless times on Brighton & London’s BBC Introducing, being named track of the week.
Speaking on the track, Abbo says “‘Pass The Fiddle to The Beast’ is a honky tonk sing-a-long about alcoholism and making music, brought to life by Becka Wright on violin, kindly filling in for the devil who was too busy to bust out a solo on the record. It’s the first single from my upcoming album ‘Add to the Noise’ recorded over an extended period of time with Jake Smallwood at Farm Road Studios in Brighton. The death of a friend kicked off an intense period of writing music. After some time frantically and aimlessly creating songs to cast into the void, I decided it would be a good idea to put them all together and give the nothingness an album to chew on.“
Following a sold-out debut solo show at Brighton’s Folklore Rooms, Sam Abbo and band are ready to hit the road following the release of ‘Add To The Noise’ - live dates TBA.
