“Now Hear This” The Independent
“I really like this” Steve Lamacq (BBC 6 Music)
“Splendidly wild and weird” Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music)
London power-punk specialists Alien Chicks share frenetic new effort ‘Candlestick Maker’, out today (April 13th) via Hideous Mink Records (Opus Kink, Fake Turins, Black Bordello), marking the second reveal from the band’s debut EP arriving this summer.
Partnering with the rising indie label for their upcoming extended release, ‘Candlestick Maker’ is another thrilling reminder of the trio’s enigmatic sensibilities, and coincides with the start of their first major headline UK tour, culminating in a London showcase at The Lexington on April 19th.
With a slew of BBC 6 Music support from the likes of Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson, as well as Radio X airplay (John Kennedy) and The Independent playlist coverage greeting their early releases, Alien Chicks have clearly developed a fierce grassroots following. Countless shows have been staged alongside buzzing acts such as Warmduscher, Fat Dog, The Queens Head, Medicine Cabinet, Been Stellar, Lip Filler, Cowboyy and Fraulein in recent times, whilst the three-piece have recently completed dates with both Italia 90 and The Wood Burning Savages.
Speaking ahead of their forthcoming single release, the group explained: “‘Candlestick Maker’ is a live favourite - it always gets the mosh pit going at our gigs. It straddles a mix of different genres and is both playful and haunting, while also making you want to dance”.
Alien Chicks’ ‘Candlestick Maker’ (single) is out now via Hideous Mink Records and available on all digital platforms.
Alien Chicks is Josef Lindsay (guitar, vocals), Stefan Parker-Steele (bass, backing vocals), Martha Daniels (drums, backing vocals)
