London-based post-punk power trio Alien Chicks announce their arrival with eccentric new single āCowboyā, out today (January 25th) via cult indie label Slow Dance Records (Saint Jude, Uma).
Forming the lead single from their upcoming debut EP, the group explore a whole mix of genres including jazz, rap, latin, and math rock in their music, providing a surreal social commentary packed with punchy rhythms and eclectic time signatures.
With widespread BBC 6 Music support from the likes of Steve Lamacq, as well as Radio X airplay courtesy of John Kennedy, Alien Chicks have certainly gained a buzzing grassroots following; dates have already been ticked off alongside acts including Fat Dog, The Queens Head, Medicine Cabinet, Been Stellar and Fraulein over the last twelve months, whilst in 2023 the three-piece will be touring with both Italia 90 and The Wood Burning Savages.
Detailing āCowboyā, an amalgamation of a few riffs that were loitering in frontman Joe Lindsayās mind over a few weeks, Alien Chicks revealed: āThe lyrics explore themes of regret, confusion, self blame and how these evils collude in taunting you through your dreams and subconsciousā.
Celebrating with a single launch party at Brixton Windmill for Independent Venue Week on 30th January (with Cowboyy and Lip Filler in support), the band will then be heading out on a mini February tour to Brighton, Portsmouth, and Southampton, preceding a whole host of extensive live dates this spring/summer.
