Horn-fuelled filth-funk, where punk & jazz combine in grimy circumstances” NME

Brighton six-piece Opus Kink announce eagerly anticipated second EP ‘My Eyes, Brother!’, set for release May 19th via Nice Swan Records (Sports Team, Pip Blom, FUR, English Teacher), and share raucous lead track ‘Dust’, out today (February 2nd).
Teaming with the cult indie label for their second extended release, the enigmatic sextet’s relentless ascent shows no signs of slowing down, with the DIY Magazine Class of 2023 graduates announcing their biggest headline shows to date (including London’s iconic Village Underground) for the spring, following on from a winter live run alongside Warmduscher (tour support) and The Mysterines.
“Our new EP is a loose collection of dream and nightmare sequences”, the group explained. “The narrators, proudly unreliable, don their various faces with much bad taste. The bad friend, serial progenitor, shame-wracked voluntary celibate and love-wracked ex-pimp are reading Ecclesiastes on Goodreads together. Their tummies are funny. They are asking themselves, as we ask our own selves: how to defecate up the walls, find our reflections in car windows, stop to tongue-kiss those reflections, run away in grief, break our teeth on a handrail, crawl home to a locked door and somehow still feel sexy”?
Marking the follow-up to 2022 debut EP ‘‘Til The Stream Runs Dry’, the band’s newest work and ever-evolving enigmatic approach is sure to enhance their soaring reputation, having already gained widespread plaudits from key press champions (NME, DIY, So Young, Dork, Clash, Gigwise, Under The Radar) and radio tastemakers alike, landing on the BBC 6 Music playlist twice (Steve Lamacq, Lauren Laverne) and attracting solid support on BBC Radio 1 (Jack Saunders).
Detailing their first EP reveal, Opus Kink stated: “‘Dust' was written during soundchecks on tour and finished in the studio, recorded live with few overdubs. It's a nasty little song concocted of several recurring nightmares and a modish death-cult aesthetic, set to an apocalyptic rip-off backing built from Ian Dury, Chas & Dave and a splat of T-Rex”.
Opus Kink’s ‘Dust’ is out now via Nice Swan Records and available on all digital platforms.
Opus Kink is Angus Rogers (lead vocals, guitars), Sam Abbo (bass, backing vocals), Fin Abbo (drums, percussion), Jazz Pope (keys, synth, backing vocals), Jack Banjo Courtney (trumpet), Jed Morgans (saxophone)
