“Magnificent” The Sunday Times
“Horn-fuelled filth-funk, where punk & jazz combine in grimy circumstances” NME
“Opus Kink have crafted a world for themselves which seems theirs alone to conquer” So Young
“A frenetic groove-filled glimpse of what’s to come” DIY
“One of the UK’s most exciting new bands” Clash
“Something quite special” Gigwise
“Always at the peril of derailing but somehow still in control – the adrenaline rush that comes from both situations is addictive" Dork
Brighton risers Opus Kink release eagerly anticipated second EP ‘My Eyes, Brother!’, out today (May 19th) via Nice Swan Records (Sports Team, Pip Blom, FUR, English Teacher).
Partnering with the cult indie label for their extended release, the enigmatic sextet’s continuous progression shows no signs of slowing down, with the DIY Magazine Class of 2023 readying themselves for their biggest headline shows to date (including London’s iconic Village Underground) in the spring, as well as a glut of festival slots including Truck Festival and Live At Leeds In The Park over the summer months.
The follow-up to 2022 debut EP ‘‘Til The Stream Runs Dry’, ‘My Eyes, Brother!’ has already spawned acclaimed lead singles ‘Dust’, ‘1 : 18’ and ‘Children’, adding to their irrepressible musical patchwork of chaotic brilliance and garnering plentiful plaudits from key press champions (The Sunday Times, The Independent, NME, DIY, So Young, Dork, Clash, Gigwise, Under The Radar) and radio tastemakers in the process, with two appearances on the BBC 6 Music playlist (Steve Lamacq, Lauren Laverne) and repeated support on BBC Radio 1 (Jack Saunders).
Speaking ahead of their EP release, frontman Angus Rogers stated: “Our new EP 'My Eyes, Brother!' is a loose collection of dream and nightmare sequences. The narrators, proudly unreliable, don their various faces with much bad taste. The bad friend, serial progenitor, shame-wracked voluntary celibate and love-wracked ex-pimp are reading Ecclesiastes on Goodreads together. Their tummies are funny. They are asking themselves, as we ask our own selves: how to defecate up the walls, find our reflections in car windows, stop to tongue-kiss those reflections, run away in grief, break our teeth on a handrail, crawl home to a locked door and somehow still feel sexy?”
Opus Kink’s ‘My Eyes, Brother!’ (EP) is out today (May 19th) via Nice Swan Records and available on all digital platforms.
Opus Kink is Angus Rogers (lead vocals, guitars), Sam Abbo (bass, backing vocals), Fin Abbo (drums, percussion), Jazz Pope (keys, synth, backing vocals), Jack Banjo Courtney (trumpet), Jed Morgans (saxophone)
