“An intriguing musical concoction that doffs its cap to grunge, the Kinks, Iggy Pop and T. Rex” The Sunday Times
“Human Interest are already proving to be a delight” Consequence of Sound
East London indie specialists Human Interest release brand new EP ‘Smile While You’re Losing (An Audio Guide To Wellness)’, out today (September 6th) via cult indie label Nice Swan Records (English Teacher, Sprints, Chalk).
Comprising of lead singles ‘Shapeshifting’, ‘Better Press Repeat’ and latest effort ‘Nuclear War’, the group’s newest extended release showcases their phenomenal potential in full flow, with the alt-rockers’ silky harmonies and thrilling anthemic sensibilities piquing the interest of many throughout the emerging indie landscape in recent months.
Hailed by The Sunday Times as “an intriguing musical concoction that doffs its cap to grunge, The Kinks, Iggy Pop and T.Rex”, and following extensive press support from the likes of DIY, Dork, Consequence of Sound, Clash, The Line Of Best Fit, So Young, The New Cue, CMU, Rough Trade, The Forty-Five, Human Interest have fast become mainstays on the BBC 6 Music (Steve Lamacq), Radio X (playlisted) and Sirius FM airwaves. With their biggest ever headliner lined up at The Lexington, London one week today (13th September) to celebrate their EP release, the quartet are primed to capitalise on their acclaimed summer festival run with a slew of tastemaker festival appearances later this year.
Speaking ahead of their EP release, co-lead vocalist Cat Harrison revealed: “‘Smile While You’re Losing’ is meta in the sense that it’s about trying to keep your head up when it feels like everything is going wrong. I am getting older and I’m increasingly overwhelmed with feelings of uselessness. Despite all its disparities, existing in this life is inherently beautiful; it just distorts sometimes. When I take a breather from my own self-pitying existence to take in the world, I am greeted by one falling apart at the seams, with history repeating itself in the most awful way. Maybe there’s solace in there – we’re all losing; it’s all fucked. However, seeing someone smile through it can give you hope. Smile not just for yourself, but for the people that may see you smile and be encouraged to do so themselves.”
Human Interest’s ‘Smile While You’re Losing (An Audio Guide To Wellness)’ (EP) is out now via Nice Swan Records and available on all digital platforms.
