“A tuneful blast of fuzzed-out guitar” Stereogum
“pretty glorious indeed” DIY
“absolutely slaps” NME
“a deft pop explosion” Clash
“Feverish pop turns and frenetic guitar solos” Dork
Exit Kid release alt-rock stomper ‘Out Of Time’ today - the first release since the acclaimed ‘Basis’ EP in late 2021.
‘Out Of Time’ is built around a relentlessly prowling bass line that steadily gathers momentum, whilst picking up woozy, exploratory guitar lines. Atop this vocalist Emre Türkmen delivers understated and impassioned vocals, musing on the necessity to reassess priorities, as he elaborates:
“Out Of Time is a song about holding on tight to the important things. We should all strive to live in the present because the clock is ticking.”
Emre Türkmen and Dylan Bell (drums) met fatefully during the 2017 tour of Emre’s former band, Years and Years. The new friends would go on to found “Metal Night” - a much anticipated event that occurred once a week backstage where they’d rally the roadies and play 90’s and 00’s hard rock as loud as was tolerable. It’s here that the two would come to form what we now know as Exit Kid.
From here they initially made a name for themselves with a string of high-octane fuzzed out releases, leaning on the most exhilarating elements of 90s alternative. Maintaining this thrilling start-point, they’ve added further strings to their bow in their adoption of shoegaze and dream-pop ingredients.
With their spirited brand of punk infused grunge that heralds 90’s heavyweights such as Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies and Blur, it’s no wonder the duo have found praise from the likes of NME, The Independent, Stereogum, DIY, The Line of Best Fit, Dork, Clash among others.
