Exit Kid reveal dreamy new single ‘Basis’, the title-track for a new EP, which will be unleashed on December 10th.
Making a name for themselves thus far with a string of high-energy fuzzed out releases, leaning on the most exhilarating elements of 90s alternative - ‘Basis’ is a shift in gear. Dialling down the snarl, Exit Kid opt for a more pensive route. Natural piano and cello tones accompany watery guitars, providing a bed for Emre Türkmen’s resonating vocals. The result is no less infectious, creating a sound at once intimate and symphonic.
The additional instrumental complexities bely what is at heart a straightforward, yet important theme, as Emre explains:
"Basis is a very simple song about love and dedication. It's good to let people know how you feel while you have the opportunity."
Emre Türkmen and Dylan Bell (drums) met fatefully during the 2017 tour of Emre’s former band, Years and Years. The new friends would go on to found “Metal Night” - a much anticipated event that occurred once a week backstage where they’d rally the roadies and play 90’s and 00’s hard rock as loud as was tolerable. It’s here that the two would come to form what we now know as Exit Kid and the pair have been a deafeningly defiant force ever since.
With their spirited brand of punk infused grunge that heralds 90’s heavyweights such as Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies and Blur, it’s no wonder the duo have found praise from the likes of NME, The Independent, Stereogum, DIY, The Line of Best Fit, Dork, Clash among others.
Mixed by John Catlin (Led Zeppelin, The Killers, Foals) and mastered by Robin Schmidt (The 1975, Wolf Alice, The Black Keys), Exit Kid’s ‘Basis’ is out now and available on all digital platforms.
