Leeds quintet Eades announce highly anticipated debut album ‘Delusion Spree’ for March 4th 2022 via Heist or Hit (Her’s, Pizzagirl, Brad Stank), and reveal the latest single from it - ‘Ever Changing’.
Harnessing a pluralistic punch of new wave, art-punk, garage rock and 90s alternative in a joyously infectious manner, Eades are a gang you want to be a part of.
Gorging on the eclectic sprawl of the guitar-music cannon, and latching onto the traditions that get their blood pumping, the resulting maelstrom of sound is at once effervescent, snarling and invigorating. The Guardian, FADER, NME, DIY, Brooklyn Vegan and more have been swept up in the fizzing energy - and DJs at BBC 6 Music (Steve Lamacq), Radio 1 (Jack Saunders, Gemma Bradley) and KCRW (Travis Holocombe) have championed on the air. This sets an exciting foundation for a true coming of age on 2022 debut album ‘Delusion Spree’.
The newest single taken from the LP is ‘Ever Changing’ - a vitalic art-punk bouncer, oscillating between shuffling and skittish rhythmic stabs; smooth, harmonised guitar runs; and a pulsating, hook-laden chorus. There’s even space for Thin Lizzy indebted harmonised guitar heroics. It jolts with all the nervous stop-start energy of a mid-twenties average-joe trying to navigate life choices, question friendships, and micro analyse interactions. As lyricist Tom O’Reilly elaborates on:
"At that time I was finding myself in a lot of situations with self-involved characters that I had no interest in, purely because they’re an easy distraction from everything I didn’t want to think about. I kept jumping from toxic relationships to chaotic friendships without thinking I could take a step back and centre myself to actually tackle real problems. ‘Ever changing’ is about burying my head in the sand and avoiding real issues in my life. It’s about finding new ways to procrastinate and change to make each day feel more exciting than it really is.”
Self-produced, and recorded live a la inspirations Parquet Courts, Pixies and The Strokes’ early work, there is an energy alchemised by the confidence each individual member has in their craft. This is amplified by the psychic connection established by hours of practice, and the rough and tumble of auxiliary commitments as an indie-band in this day and age.
Utilising this approach, Eades have made some impression in their short career so far. A hefty work ethic, a prodigious ear for a tune and a fully-leaded live approach has seen the fanbase grow and grow.
Eades are Harry Jordan (Vocals and Guitar), Tom O'Reilly (Lead Guitar, vocals), Sam Wilde (Bass), Dan Clifford-Smith (Drums) and Lily Fontaine (Synths, Percussion, Vocals).
‘Delusion Spree’, the debut album from Eades is out on March 4th 2022 via Heist or Hit and was produced by Harry Jordan and Dan Clifford-Smith - ‘Ever Changing’ is the latest preview, out now.
