Fight Or Flight is the third EP from Eades. It was the final batch of songs recorded, produced and mixed in frontman Harry Jordan's old basement studio 'Bam Bam Studios' where almost all of Eades catalog has been written in the past. Having just finished a UK tour supporting Wunderhorse, the band were keen to write a batch of songs that would turn up the energy, excitement and fun in their live set. Aiming for a bigger production sound for bigger stages than they'd previously played before. The goal was to put the song first and if it did not work acoustically in its purest form, it would not make the cut. In the past, the band had prioritized left-field guitar arrangements, tempo changes and other instrumental ideas to lead the song, whereas this time, the melody and lyrics would be prioritized above all else.
Lyrically, the tracks tackle themes of self discovery and understanding, reflecting on the band's experiences with anxiety, loved one's addictions and personal growth, with the goal of better understanding their place in the world as people and musicians.
"We must have written over 50 songs to get to this ep. We trimmed that down to a 12 song album, then we decided to trim it further to the only songs we couldn’t live without releasing. This became the five track EP that is fight or flight.
It will probably be the full stop to the way in which Eades have existed musically for the past 4 years. One final hurrah, waving goodbye to our scrappy youth in what we consider our swan song (or swan EP).
It contains a distillation of all the components that made the Eades sound what it is today.
We consider this EP to be the best version of this Eades sound. This, however, has not stopped us from hinting at changes to come. Suggestions of strangeness and maturity are peppered across the EP, which will act as Easter eggs for the Eades sound the world is yet to hear, but one that is bubbling just below the surface waiting to escape.
We put a lot of time and love into this EP, we can’t wait to show you what’s to come."
