city: Belfast, South LondonSouth London-based Irish songwriter and producer piglet (Charlie Loane) (he/him) and Tiberius b (Frank Belcourt) (they/them) announce a brand new collaborative single, "certainty," through Blue Flowers.
Following piglet's recent track "panic" with Jemima Coulter, "certainty" is another alt pop anthem that brings together piglet and Tiberius b's two distinct musical worlds.
Reflecting on the collaboration, piglet shares, "I've been a big fan of Frank's music for a long time, so it's been a real privilege to work together on this tune. Frank and I have been saying for ages that we should write a song together, so it's lovely that this has come to be! We passed stems back and forth online gradually over a few months, and 'Certainty' is a mixture of all our favourite bits we came up with throughout that process and an afternoon together writing and recording in my bedroom."
Tiberius b adds; “I’ve loved piglet for ages and was honoured that he wanted to work on something together. I think both of us tend to make quite vulnerable music on our own and it was cathartic to step out of my comfort zone to do that with someone else as a witness and responder. It’s interesting as an artist who also produces to get a window into how someone else puts something together from their gear, workflow to recording ethos. Excited to one day play it live together.”
The music video, a one-take shot of the artists riding bikes through London, is a nod to a serendipitous connection between the artists, as piglet recounts, "When we first met, we realized that just prior to us hanging out for the first time, we had each made really similar music videos for singles that had been released within a month of each other, where we were both performing our songs while cycling around following a camera. So when it came to making a video together, we thought it would be cute to refer to those old videos by making a similar one as a collaboration. I remember someone saying to me that trans people especially love bikes—maybe that's true. Trans people tend to have exceptional taste in all things, so this would make sense to me. Hope you enjoy the song <3."
"certainty" is the second track to mark piglet's return since his seven songs EP (Blue Flowers, 2022) which addressed the injustices of British healthcare for trans people in "it isnt fair," and in "to you tonight," a celebration of queer identity. The EP and follow up single “building site outside,” also a deeply personal exploration about the trans experience, led to piglet being selected as part of The Face's One To Watch 23 series and profiled by notable publications So Young and Loud & Quiet. Additionally, his music videos, created in collaboration with trans filmmaker Harv Frost, have supported fundraising efforts for the We Exist charity.
Influenced by the sounds of Portishead, Underworld, and Massive Attack, the London based artist Tiberius b channels their experiences into poetic and incisive songwriting. Their sophomore EP DIN, released in 2023 via Mark Ronson’s label Zelig Music, was co-produced by Vampire Weekend’s Chris Baio and explores themes of betrayal, new beginnings, and queer intimacy. The EP was supported by the likes of, i-D, Dazed and Confused, Line Of Best Fit, Clash, Them & featured on the A List at BBC Radio 6.
