Blue Flowers (Westerman, Nilüfer Yanya, Puma Blue) signees London quartet Mylar today reveal a second track, “Blue Afternoon”, taken from their debut EP Elsewhere.
The song follows February’s debut single, “Plastic Champ”, the track that announced their four track EP, and secured early praise from Clash, Brooklyn Vegan, The New Cue, The Independent, The Line of Best Fit, Disco Naïveté and much more.
“Blue Afternoon” is the oldest song on the EP and it’s a break-up song really,” say the band.
“It’s about how quickly the reality of a relationship fades after that final meeting - things start to seem foggy and unclear and in a delirious state you’re clinging on to whatever thoughts and words you can remember from that conversation.”
The song shifts musically from being a sparse trip hop piano ballad to a power ballad that’s quite electronic, over the top and even oddly euphoric.
“We were trying to summon the feeling when that new reality hits home. You feel the ground has gone from underneath you, and the brutal speed at which the new reality sets in is almost comical - you might see the funny side in the future anyway.”
Mylar’s Elsewhere EP explores the universal vulnerabilities of their internal selves and those around them, surrounded by a world spinning at a different rate.
“Most of the lyrics are about people feeling trapped by circumstance, or having a sense of time running away, or pivotal moments where you’re hyper-aware of the direction things will take,” the band explain.
Elsewhere EP was recorded and produced by Mylar in London in the first half of 2021.
It was mixed and mastered in Spain by Iñaki de las Cuevas and Julío Rodríguez Sangrador respectively.
“Blue Afternoon” is out today with Elsewhere EP to follow on the 8th of April via Blue Flowers.
Mylar are made up of Tom Clark (guitar, synth), Rob Janke (drums, backing vocals) Neraj Thangarajah (guitar, keys, vocals) and Tom Short (keys, bass, vocals).
The band have just finished a residency at Laylow and today announce their EP launch at The Waiting Room in Stoke Newington for the 4th of May.
