With influences as diverse as the Doo Wop of the Platters to the noise of Gilla Band, they mix vintage sounds with noise, drones, scattered rhythms and daggered melodies, for a deafening pastiche only your grandma could ignore. They speak of love, loss and control, but sometimes they just shout.
The story of Mince is one of catharsis, escape and friendship. Starting a band is something you do when you’re not sure what you want to do with your life, all you know is the love of music – that was Jamie’s reason. Matthew spent all his energy at work but needed time for his passion. George needed an escape from the manual labour in the garage and to rekindle the pride he had when playing rugby for Leeds Rhinos. Owen came back to Leeds in stasis after getting his degree in biology. Clem just wanted to play some gigs in Leeds like he had done in London. What brings them together is friendship, be it since primary school with George and Owen or since last year with Clem and the rest of the band, they are a tight nit bunch who feed off each other’s energy.
