London-based, South African alt-poppers HONEYMOAN share a new single ‘Show You Off’, the 4th cut from their hotly anticipated debut album Sorry Like You Mean It releasing 29 September.
‘Show You Off’ demonstrates yet another string to HONEYMOAN’s bow, the track rolls along on a bed of punchy electronics and tight drums, broadening the eclectic mix of sounds heard across the previously released singles, a brilliant taster menu of what’s to be expected from their debut album.
Speaking on the track, vocalist Alison Rachel explains:
“Show You Off is about having a secret fling with someone you’re slightly ashamed about. It’s about the internal conflict of finding yourself attracted to a person who isn’t your usual type”
The accompanying video is beautifully shot on film. Featuring cuts of the band adventuring together, working in the studio and hanging out as friends bowling, the warm look and nostalgic home video atmosphere makes you feel like you’ve known the band your whole life. In contrast to ‘We’re On An Island, But It’s The UK’ video's oddball, green screen antics, HONEYMOAN once again show they’re a multifaceted creative force to be reckoned with.
Lyrically across their upcoming album Sorry Like You Mean It, Alison details that the upcoming album deals mostly with her love life, from breakups and infidelity, to mental health issues within dating. Through turbulent times, themes of self-love and empowerment are prevalent from the band. Outside of HONEYMOAN Alison is a published author and illustrator of ‘Recipes for Self-Love: How to Feel Good in a Patriarchal World’. She also runs a powerful, self-love social media outlet under the name Recipes For Self Love, with nearly half a million followers on Instagram.
About HONEYMOAN
Even at HONEYMOAN’s very first jam in their native Cape Town, it was clear they had a rare creative spark. By the end of day one they had already produced two ready-made bangers – the bracing guitar-driven rush of ‘</3’, and the slick down-tempo earworm ‘W e’ – that were only a taste of what was to come. That spark has now been fanned into an intense flame. HONEYMOAN, consisting of frontwoman Alison Rachel, multi - instrumentalist Skye McInnes who she’s known since their teenage years, and producer Josh Berry. Now based in London, HONEYMOAN’s journey to this assured point has been turbulent, seeing the trio operate at times with members scattered across different continents, and maintaining momentum through the coronavirus pandemic, but whatever has come their way the y’ve never lost that sense of creative freedom that was there from the start. “We’ve always managed to maintain that energy of playing for fun” Alison says
