Empire is a sharp shot of contemporary electro-punk that couldnt exist anytime but now - or could it? This is the latest instalment by Holy Robots, a studio project by outsider artist and songwriter / producer Lupen Crook.
Born out of depression and a raw hatred for industrial society, 'Empire' follows on from 2021's 'Are All Your Friends Satanists?' (6Music, BBC introducing) and second single 'All The Right Bombs (in all the wrong places)', described by Louder Than War as 'another fantastic grab of the establishment throat'.
With the current state of global politics, corrupt media-governments incorporated, and an ever broken Britain, Holy Robots delivers an unapologetic state of the nation address with new track Empire.
Gritty loops of feedback guitars accompany hard analogue rhythms and an infectious bass line, providing a backdrop for the sardonic vocal that takes direct aim at imperialism and the British empire - 'you cannot kill me, I'm already dead'.
