city: Brighton“like David Byrne becoming a goth and then meeting up with Ian Curtis or a 2010s indie band. Trust me, it works.” Far Out
“Twitching like an insatiable urge that just won’t subside…electric rumble of spooky, glam-tinged new wave chic.” So Young Magazine
"If you're into twisted, psychosomatic art-rock, ELLiS·D is right up your valley." Still Listening
“baroque post-punk shivers” Louder Than War
“Haunting. Spooky. Energetic…just have a listen” Rodeo
“Sounds like nothing else out there and is absolutely brilliant….one spin and straight away you want to listen to everything else with the ELLiS·D mark. More please.” Backseat Mafia
Following the announcement of several UK headline tour dates - capped off with an appearance at the Tim Burgess-curated stage at Kendal Calling Festival - Brighton’s ELLiS·D shares new single ‘Carousel’ - due 18th July via Crafting Room Recordings (Ideal Living, SoftTop)
Sustaining his penchant for a nostalgically familiar yet hauntingly enigmatic sound - described variously as post-punk, art-rock, to glam, new wave, and everything in-between - ELLiS·D’s newest cut delivers a blood curdling stew of anxious Talking Heads funk and glam-rock decadence, distinguished as ever by frontman Ellis Dickson’s ghoulish baritone, howling guitars and frenetic, hotwire energies.
With all parts written and recorded by Dickson himself at Hackney Road Studios with producer Shuta Shinoda (Hot Chip, Jenny Beth), ‘Carousel’ continues ELLiS·D’s streak of relentlessly wired, ‘on-edge’ rock, finely polluted with a worldly 21st century paranoia, as Dickson himself explains:
“‘Carousel’ is an attempt at mitigating the anxious, paranoid wreck that lives inside us and wants to spoil everything. A cathartic fuck you to the parading cowards ripping up the rulebook on human decency in front of our eyes and hiding behind their big red buttons.”
