London five-piece pencil release brand new single ‘Sparkling Water’, out today (February 12th) via State51.
Part of an exciting wave of bands from the capital bringing a sense of romance and melodicism back to the indie scene after recent years of post-punk revivalism, pencil have already graced festivals and venues across the UK and Europe with their ensemble synergy, building a reputation as an enthralling and unmissable live act with packed-out shows at Green Man and The Great Escape.
With two singles released to date, pencil have already attracted widespread attention, touring with The Japanese House, as well as drawing praise from key press champions The Independent, DIY Magazine, Dork Magazine, The Line Of Best Fit, So Young Magazine and La Blogotheque, and BBC 6 Music airplay (Deb Grant, Tom Ravenscroft, Marc Riley - live session, Gideon Coe).
Speaking ahead of their single release, the band stated: “‘Sparkling Water’ is the sound of a shared daydream. We swim together through a fantasy that threatens to become a nightmare, both playful and fearful in equal measure.”
pencil’s ’Sparkling Water’ is out now via State51 and available on all digital platforms.
pencil are Coco Inman (violin), Dom Potts (bass), Kamran Khan (acoustic guitar + vocals), Thomas Fiquet (drums), Cai Burns (electric guitar + vocals)
