Featuring members from across the biggest names Vienna indie scene - Endless Wellness, Yukno, sharktank, Cousines like Shit - newly emerged for 2024 are ischia.
Fronted by vocalist/guitarist Adele Ischia (and absolutely nothing to do with the island in Italy), the band’s grasp of almost every avenue of pop-facing guitar music is their signature. Marbling grunge’ing alt-rock with sugary indie-pop; 80s-disco with dream-soaked shoegaze, unifying the band’s upcoming debut album Leave Me To The Future - due next week on 13th September via Siluh Records (GARDENS) - is Adele’s own androgynous vocal, and her cutting sentiments on motherhood and masculinity.
Following the DIIV-esque dreaminess of their debut single ‘sleep’, and the Girl Ray-like pop shuffles of its follow-up ‘is it gonna last’, new single ‘Fake’ shows reveals a whole other string to ischia’s bow. An ice-fire mash-up of sunny indie-jangle and cool Breeders’-esque grunge, the track is a brutal take-down of toxic masculinity, as singer Adele Ischia explains:
"After our wistfully dreamy first two singles, we thought the song ‘fake’ should catapult the listener bluntly into the here and now. With loud guitars, the song complains in snotty indignation about toxic masculinity and everything that is wrong with it.“
