“The sound of hazy summer days. Dives tell personal stories with an unflinching honesty, rallying against discrimination and inequality. The gorgeous two-part singing and the jangly surf-pop guitars are blissful.” – God Is In The TV
“A melodic, harmony-driven slice of laid back, surfer indie-guitar with a melancholic summertime-sadness mood.” Louder Than War
“‘Say’ offers a perfectly blissful end-of-summer anthem, glistening with a rippling sunny energy and immersive effervescent haze.” Get In Her Ears
Arriving off the back power pop of summer single ‘Be Fine’, Vienna trio DIVES share its wintry flip-side ‘Happier’ today (29th November) via Siluh Records (GARDENS, Laundromat Chicks) - ahead of a special homecoming Christmas show next month.
Charged with equal parts melancholia and hopefulness, the bittersweet melodies and blue-sky-bright productions across ‘Happiness’ continue to define a band that never shy away from the playful, the upbeat, and the upfront.
Discussing more on the single, the band say: “The song deals with the fear of standing in front of the changed self and entering into self-dialogue: How do you look at yourself when you no longer recognise yourself in the mirror? How do you talk to yourself when you suddenly realise that you can no longer be the same person you used to be? When you have to admit that you haven't been well for a long time? The song title ‘Happier’ refers to a past and future actual state and becomes a programmatic goal. I see you and I know that you exist in a happier version that will come again.”
