''wonderbug's music is an invitation for intimacy. It moves to one side of the pavement so you can skip beside it, hand in hand'’ - Hard of Hearing
“goosebump inducing” So Young Magazine
“Often bands emerge with potential sure, yet with a certain ragged charm, thrillingly wonderbug seem to have just brushed straight past that…they already feel ready to make a real splash” - For The Rabbits
Accompanying the announcement of debut EP scrap - set for release on 8th November - South London indie/grunge newcomers wonderbug share lead single ‘what A waste of time’ today (4th October).
Produced by Honeyglaze’s Yuri Shibuichi - responsible for acclaimed releases from Tapir! and Mary In The Junkyard - ‘what a waste of time’ delivers a heart-rending mix of lovelorn lyricism and impassioned vocals that emphatically lifts itself up from wounded indie/slacker contemplations to all-horns-blaring fuzzed-up defiance. Offering more on the track, the band say: "We’ve all grown up in london and seen a lot come and go. This song is about finding joy in impermanence and moving on, eventually."
Growing up together in South-East London, and all related by birth or marriage, the band have spent the best part of three years honing their craft across the London grassroots live circuit. Performing alongside numerous up-and-coming indie names - among them The Orchestra (For Now), Bug Teeth, Skydaddy, Butch Kassidy and Flip Top Head - the band’s only release to date - 2022 debut single ‘hiding in plain sight’ - saw the band win early press support from the likes So Young Magazine, Hard of Hearing, For The Rabbits, Post-Brexit Pop and Hash Brand New.
Set for release on 8th November, debut EP Scrap sees wonderbug celebrate the timeless glories of stripped-back, heart-on-sleeve indie-rock. Defined by its commitment to stark honesty in its every nerve and sinew - from the soaring vulnerabilities of lead vocalist Edie Chesters, to its direct, under-stated production - the quartet stumble into adulthood with these five coming-of-age tales on love, doubt, and the endless quest for purpose.
