“Definitely a band to keep an eye on” Emily Pilbeam (BBC Radio 6 Music)
“The outfit brighten a classic, heartstrung indie sound with liveliness, passion and a bit of a gritty edge…they certainly know what they're doing.” DIY
“Marrying their grungy underbelly with a luxurious slacker feel…Clear-cut vocals are stamped onto a fuzzy-edged soundscape, like the distinct outline of a brightly coloured raincoat against a mist of rain.” So Young Magazine
“Absorbingly soft and yet rugged to the touch” Hard of Hearing
“Their writing reflects the tangled emotions of love and longing - cathartic yet playful, angry yet tender.” Still Listening
Marking the announcement of the band’s biggest string of UK shows to date - pencilled for early 2025 - South London indie/grunge quartet wonderbug release debut EP scrap, out today (8th November).
Produced by Honeyglaze’s Yuri Shibuichi - responsible for acclaimed debuts from Tapir! and Mary In The Junkyard - scrap sees wonderbug celebrate the timeless glories of stripped-back, heart-on-sleeve indie-rock. Defined by its commitment to stark honesty in its every nerve and sinew - from the soaring vulnerabilities of lead vocalist Edie Chesters, to its direct, under-stated production - the quartet stumble into adulthood with these five coming-of-age tales on love, doubt, and the endless quest for purpose.
This is demonstrated none more so than on the new single ’‘answers’. Offering more on the track, the band say: “We wanted to write about how love can be rushed to fulfil a personal flaw through the quickest way possible. Slower answers are more rewarding; taking your time can improve connection and understanding.”
Since the release of lead single 'what a waste of time' last month, the band have enjoyed a sell-out headline show at The Windmill, widespread press/radio support from new music champions BBC Radio 6 Music (Emily Pilbeam), DIY, So Young, KEXP, Spotify ("Hot New Bands", "Fresh Finds"), Hard of Hearing, Still Listening and For The Rabbits, a tour with Britpop legends The Bluetones, a show with Australia's Fan Girl, and confirmation of support slots for Divorce and Porchlight in the coming months.
Growing up together in South-East London, and all related by birth or marriage, the band have spent the best part of three years honing their craft across the London grassroots live circuit, Performing alongside numerous up-and-coming indie names - among them The Orchestra (For Now), Bug Teeth, Skydaddy, Butch Kassidy and Flip Top Head
