UV-TV are a NYC band featuring singer/bassist Rose Vastola, lead guitarist Ian Burns, drummer and multi-instrumentalist Ian Rose, and pianist and guitarist Noah Deemer. UV-TV juxtapose the coolness of downtown ‘77 punk with the spirit and attitude of early rock and roll to create a sound that’s both familiar and uniquely their own. In their new release, The Optimistic Wrench, they debut six burning tracks which Ian Burns claims “could all be potential singles. Lyrically we tried to articulate the heaviness of the last few years,” he continues. “We like to think of ourselves as weary optimists.”
The Optimistic Wrench is an obvious departure from the highly regarded 2022 album Always Something. On previous releases, the band had limited time and resources to accommodate the creative process but on The Optimistic Wrench, UV-TV practiced patience and utilized the studio as an instrument. “We wrote most of the record while playing with an Omni chord and recording sonic experiments using a Farfisa organ and broken synthesizers as our palette” says Vastola. This newfound approach is rewarding for the group and listeners alike, its effects resonating in exciting ways across The Optimistic Wrench, due October 11, 2024 on Papercup Music and No Non Fiction.
