city: Barcelona, LondonToday, Uma shares two new songs with Amy May Ellis. “Maybe We'll Wake Up” and a new version of her track “Nebula” are out on London hybrid label and Management company Slow Dance (PVA , Saint Jude, Glows, Khazail, Aga Ujma, Tina).
Uma says of the songs and her collaboration with Ellis; They were written in the heart of spring, on a boat in the middle of london. They are a memory of who we were at that time and who we have become, of our friendship and the moments we have shared throughout the years and across different towns and countries”.
The tracks follow Uma’s two previous EP’s, 2020’s debut EP Bel-li and 2021’s The Moth & The Dove. The EP’s caught the attention of Clash, So Young, Loud & Quiet, The Needle Drop, DIY, The Line of Best Fit and Gigwise, citing touchstone cult folk artists Linda Perhacs, Josephine Foster and Sybille Baier and a combination of classical arrangements, Spanish guitar.
Uma was born and grew up in Barcelona and classically trained in violin from the age of four. Her British mother trained in performance arts and Thai father worked in a hospice in the slums of Bangkok as a young man. As well as her musical upbringing of Joni Mitchell, Buika, Nico and Ella Fitzgerald, Uma credits travelling and growing up around several cultures as a key ingredient in her work.
She currently lives in Barcelona with her partner Luke Bower (Lucy Lu) and the pair collaborated on 2020’s “Bring Me The Mountain” double A side. Uma’s work is written and performed at Can Obert, her home-come-music-residency that has seen over twenty-five young artists pass through including Alice Bloomfield, Max Pope, Amy May Ellis and Nilüfer Yanya. The residency has become a hotbed of creativity and collaboration, producing over twenty songs in a week.
Uma continues to experiment with her sound, playing with space, electronics, and styles from bossa nova right through to pop. Today’s AA is a sparse, guitar led single that allows the combination of Uma’s and Ellis’ vocals shine.
