“An exciting band with a keen eye for the ironies of modern life….In the face of the bleakness of modern Britain, they dare to have fun, and it’s infectious.” Hard of Hearing
“a sparkling piece of wonky stop-start infectious indie pop” Louder Than War
Produced by Seadna McPhail (The Orielles, Everything Everything) at Airtight Studios in South-Manchester, the latest single from The Accident Group - ‘Go Away (Please Come Back) - offers a deviantly catchy delight of DIY guitar-pop.
Fizzing synths, infectious choruses and spoken excerpts from a dramatic comedy - written by the band’s own George Unitt (guitarist/vocals) - illuminate this tragi-comic tale of heartbreak and regret, where embittered insults hurled against a former partner are really just a protective buffer against the soft vulnerabilities lurking underneath. Describing more about the track, Unitt says:
“Go Away (Please Come Back)” is a classic tale of love lost. The narrator is trying to save face by pretending to not be arsed that their partner has left him and moved away, but moments of vulnerability keep slipping out. I think it’s really funny too, it’s a good and proper Accident Group song. The breakdown section features snippets of a comedy play I wrote that was performed in Manchester — Ella and Will act magnificently. Maybe should have got them in the show originally!"
More about The Accident Group:
Formed in Manchester in 2021 after meeting in various pubs across the city, The Accident Group take their name from a Injury claims company who notoriously fired their 2,400 workforce by text after going inqto administration in 2003.
Channelling the joyousness of Sports Team, and the subversive lyricism of Sparks or XTC - the five-piece are a confection of spirited choruses and live-wire energies: on a constant quest to write the ultimate pop song, but forever waylaid by the evils of rock ‘n’ roll. Priding themselves on their razor-sharp lyricism and infectious wit, ‘Go Away’ marks the long-awaited follow-up to 2023 debut ‘The Myth of Sisyphus’, a track which niftily compared the joyless graft of the hospitality grind with Albert Camus’ symbol for the absurdity of the human condition.
Earning early press backing from Louder Than War, Hard of Hearing, Wax Music and Mix It All Up - the last 12 months have seen the five piece chalk off numerous packed-out Manchester headlines, tour the length and breadth of the UK, and perform alongside the likes of Wych Elm and Martial Arts, adding to support slots with The Blinders, LIFE and The Lovely Eggs in 2022
