“Pushing boundaries with their new-wave nuisances” - Know The Sound “a new world of glittering wonk pop” - Louder Than War |
Having met accidentally in various pubs across Manchester, guitar-pop newcomers The Accident Group now intentionally release scintillating debut cut “The Myth of Sisyphus”. Channelling the joyousness of early-Sports Team and the manic 70s edge of XTC or Sparks, The Accident Group are a confection of spirited choruses and live-wire energies - on a constant quest to write the ultimate pop song, but forever waylaid by the evils of rock ‘n’ roll. Priding themselves on smart lyricism and infectious wit - who else would describe Albert Camus’ symbol for the eternal human struggle as a ‘cheeky chappy?’ - “The Myth Of Sisyphus” introduces a refreshing new voice for wearying modern Britain. Having already gigged across the UK - Topping a bill at London’s Old Blue Last; selling out every one of their Manchester headline shows thus far - The Accident Group have too enjoyed notable support slots for The Blinders, LIFE and The Lovely Eggs in their brief tenure. Guy Garvey is also rumoured to have been overheard in a Manchester pub saying they have “the worst band name since Elbow”. Produced by Seadna McPhail at Airtight Studios (The Orielles, Everything Everything, Inspiral Carpets), guitarist/vocalist George Unitt says this of the track: “The Myth of Sisyphus is about modern service industry graft, told through the medium of ancient Greek mythology. It's always been a big one when we play live, everyone kicks off and goes mad. I think it's a cathartic song, everyone's fed up of constantly working their arse off and then feeling like they're getting fucked over. You make more money, then there's an energy crisis. So you work harder, and then there's a cost of living crisis. It's endless. I suppose the song is about finding some joy in all of that." The Accident Group are George Unitt (Guitar/Vocals), Nathan Bailey (Guitar/Vocals), William Burton (Bass), Ella Bainbridge (Synth), Izzy Odelola (Drums) |
