“At times psychedelic and at times funk, Sourface truly are creating their own genre of ‘Tropical Punk’ which radiates sunshine. Sliding between different genres while still grabbing that marguerita in its hand, Sourface’s music exudes summer.” Clunk Magazine “What they have created is a reminder that things don’t have to be bleak, that the sun is just around the corner.” Joyzine “Their fresh take on life and music is a glimmer of light in the gloom” Rodeo |
An eccentric bloom of summery melodies, glinting brass and insatiable pop-funk bliss, Anglo-Parisian quartet Sourface sustain their self-penned brand of ‘tropical punk’ on effervescing new cut ‘Hello Tomorrow’. Fizzing and popping, like Dum Dum Club and Herbie Hancock playing beach volleyball on Côte d'Azur, ‘Hello Tomorrow’ taps into Sourface’s essential desire to always look upon the brighter sides of life, as the band themselves explain: “Hello Tomorrow is a smile in the midst of a dire situation. Inspired by Yeats' poem 'The Second Coming', it tells the story of naive youthful excitement despite a culture consumed with catastrophe. This stomping indie-funk chant revives upbeat sounds from influences such as Talking Heads, Can and Herbie Hancock to dance in the face of mortality.” Formed in North London during the rupture of the pandemic as a means of channelling hope, manifesting their lives and looking to the future, the four-piece, now split between Paris and London, regularly perform in both cities, sing in both respective languages, infected by the spirit of both distinctive cultures. Having cemented their reputation for eclectic fusions of buoyant funk, new-wave, soul and jazz with a pair of EPs in recent years - garnering the favour of indie press stalwarts Clunk, Joyzine, Rodeo and Last Bus Magazine, plus support slots for Cassia and Boyish - ‘Hello Tomorrow’ is the latest irresistible immersion into the band’s dance-ridden carnival of comic-book colours and unswerving positivity. |
