“How often do you hear something that sounds truly unique?” - Pigeons & Planes.
This is experimental, emotive music designed for solo late night listening. London based producer and musician Social State’s truly progressive approach explores previously uncharted boundaries that nod towards teenage years spent obsessed with jungle tapes, imported metal CDs and electronica, with elements of broken beat and dark distorted textures underscored by a melancholic playfulness. In 2015, he released 'Human Error/She Was Loved' on Mr. Mitch’s Gobstopper Records; Mr. Mitch, founder of former club night Boxed and also a curator and auteur at the forefront of UK electronic music, remains a huge supporter of Social State’s productions. Their haunting collaboration, ‘Sleep’, featured on Mr. Mitch’s latest album ‘Lazy’, has gained support from Radiohead's Thom Yorke in his 'In The Absence Thereof...' mix for Sonos, and most recently from Cillian Murphy on his BBC 6Music show, Limited Edition.
In 2021 Social State dropped his long-awaited debut album ‘Sacrosanct’, a project that raked in playlist support and radio plays from heads like Jamz Supernova (BBC 1Xtra), Naina (Apple Music 1), Tom Ravenscroft (BBC 6Music) and Charlie Bones (NTS). The LP, featuring JD. Reid, Mr. Mitch and Chunky, put him squarely on the map as an innovative electronic music artist and collaborator.
