Meadow Meadow, the project of Peter Darlington and James Green, joined now by bassist Maya Bovill and drummer Holly Hardy, have revealed the details of their upcoming debut album, ‘You Are So Alive’, which will be released on 24 November via Practise Music. Alongside this news, the band are sharing their new single ‘Talulah’. Listen here.
Over the course of two acclaimed EPs - 2020s self-titled offering and 2021s ‘Silhouettes’ - the band have carved out a singular sound of delicate tones and rich textures, where compositions of strings and brass rub shoulders with subtle electronics and sampled sounds. The upcoming milestone on this creative path is ‘You Are So Alive’, a debut record of 11 tracks which, even within the same song, effortlessly swings from hushed moments to soaring crescendos. Leaving the boisterous guitar thrash of Spring King behind, but bringing their unquestionable knack for ear worm hooks and melodies, Peter, James, Maya and Holly of Meadow Meadow are crafting something truly special on ‘You Are So Alive’.
Pre-orders for the vinyl version of the record can be made here
Their new single ‘Talulah’ bristles with a kinetic drum machine beat that skips away under shimmering piano chords and heartfelt vocals. It follows on from previous single ‘Rain’, the two tracks display the variety and songwriting dexterity of Meadow Meadow as a band, and offer a tantalising taste of what can be expected from their upcoming debut album.
Speaking on the track, Pete and Maya offer:
Pete: "Talulah is a song about healing and finding yourself again after a toxic partnership. It was inspired by stories from the women in my life. This is dedicated to them."
Maya: "Something about Pete's first verse deeply moved me. It seemed to reach into a dark place in which many women can find themselves, especially in abusive relationships, and gently offer a hand. It felt profound to have a male voice offer such soft, gentle reassurance. My verse came in response to that."
After being named the winners of End Of The Road Festivals 2023 Play EOTR competition, Meadow Meadow recently opened the festival on the Thursday, with a spellbinding set in a packed Folly stage tent.
More Info On Meadow Meadow
Peter and James spent the last half-decade or so touring extensively together in Spring King, where a unique friendship was born. They went from “barely knowing each other, to living in each other's pockets for six years”, connecting deeply over the shared experience of growing up in towns surrounded by forests, lakes, reservoirs and canals.
After signing to Island Records, 10M+ streams, international touring and being the first band ever played on Apple Music, Spring King eventually broke down. Peter and James’ writing together became a meditative, healing process. Sharing demos between Manchester, London and later Bristol, the pair developed a distinct musical palette, using creativity as a constant source of peace and catharsis.
