“A blast of spartan new wave that's utterly thrilling” The Quietus
“A simmering taste of what’s to come” So Young

“deep tan are the exciting new group on the block in post-punk” METAL

London based, subversive post-punk trio deep tan are releasing standalone single ‘xenomorph queen’ ahead of their huge tour opening for Queens Of The Stone Age in the UK & EU throughout November. As ever with deep tan, they encourage discourse on a deep subject in a playful way and wrap it up in an exterior of spiky, angular post punk.
The band say of the song: “'xenomorph queen' witnesses the real star of the alien franchise in a new context: in the throes of a lesbian romance. a sensual – but still punk – track about matriarchy, queer parenting and sapphic love, this close encounter offers a new, intergalactic perspective on #hotmilfsinyourarea #xenomilf”
Since they first emerged with their debut EP ‘creeping speedwells’ in 2021 to widespread critical acclaim, deep tan have been winning over legions of fans with their unique brand of post-punk; never afraid of challenging the establishment, their songs are politically astute and socially conscious but never preachy. It’s a potent blend that has seen the band thrust to the forefront of the chasing pack with a string of fine releases and a subversive punk spirit.
The band then went on to release a Dan Carey produced single with his legendary label Speedy Wunderground. The resulting single, ‘tamu’s yiffing refuge’, is a stripped down, driving track that once again proves less is more.
Last year, deep tan released their second EP ‘diamond horsetail’ which features singles ‘beginners’ krav maga’ and ‘rudy ya ya ya’, the former of which is a dark and haunting track with dissonant guitars in response to the idea that women should take self defence classes. On ‘rudy ya ya ya’, deep tan recorded the first known diss track to Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, with a distinctly angular and immersive energy.
The release of their two EPs has seen the band featured in NME, DIY, Clash, Loud and Quiet, The Quietus, So Young, Notion, Dork, Brooklyn Vegan and much more, with their music playlisted at BBC 6 Music and Amazing Radio, and garnering plays on Apple Music Beats1, Radio X, SiriusXM, KEXP, BBC Wales and Amazing Radio USA. Taut, seductive and enthralling – deep tan channel legendary indie heroes like The Slits, Young Marble Giants and The Raincoats with influences from contemporaries and peers like Folly Group and Dry Cleaning to create something that is undeniably their own.
