London Multi-instrumentalist Le Junk today shares the post-disco sleaze of debut EP ‘Hush’ ahead of a launch show at London’s The George Tavern with support from Vanity Fairy and Morgan Noise.
Taking cues from the likes of Warmduscher, Beck, and Metronomy, ‘Hush’ packs bass-heavy funk grooves and nuanced electro-delicacies beneath a swaggering glam-pop pout. Across the 4-song set, Le Junk, (AKA Shimon Joseph), struts, sashays and pirouettes through a quartet of hard love stories, as told beneath the glitter of a disco ball - It’s “a collection of songs that all touch on the theme of denial; denying truth, denying growth, denying happiness.” Joseph explains.
On lead single ‘Same Old Things’, described as “one of the catchiest songs of the summer” (Dead Good Music), Le Junk lays down a refreshing blend of punching basslines, swooning indie melodies and surging glam fuzz, as the lyrics rankle with, in the singer’s own words, “self-denial and being weighed down by a toxic relationship". On ‘Mr. Bitch’, Le Junk combos Warmduschian disco-romp and sumptuous alt-pop splendour. ‘Nightmare’ embodies the irksome spectre of toxic relationships - with a badass rock lick or two - before the titular closing track ‘Hush’ cruises off into the sunset with decadent indie-glam swagger.
With a sold-out January headline at The Shacklewell Arms under his belt, recent months have seen Le Junk support the likes of MADMADMAD, Alien Tango, DEADLETTER and Opus Kink, as well as receive a swathe of support from tastemakers The Line of Best Fit, Loud & Quiet, CLASH, BBC 6Music, Radio X, Wonderland, Louder Than War, The Independent, Electronic Sound, Clunk, Wax Music, Still Listening, God Is In The TV, Dead Good Music and Post-Brexit Pop.
An active member of London’s DIY music scene, Joseph also performs on guitar with White Devil Disco and Joanie, and has recently worked the production dials and written for new electronic-pop project Almost Nothing, founded by Idlewild frontman Roddy Woomble. He joins the project for a string of dates this Summer supporting The Walkmen.
