Accompanying the announcement of debut EP Hush, set for digital/physical release on 1st September, London post-disco artist Le Junk shares the addictive disco sleaze of lead single ‘Same Old Things’.
Tackling, in his own words, “self-denial and being weighed down by a toxic relationship", ‘Same Old Things’ lays down a refreshing blend of punching basslines, hypnotic choruses and swooning indie melodies, all tightly interweaving into a surging finale of glam-fuzz satisfaction.
The brainchild of London-based Finnish/Iranian producer Shimon Joseph, Le Junk began as a bedroom fascination with bass grooves and drum machines before blossoming into the smorgasbord of sunburst eclecticism that marks its current incarnation.
Taking cues from the likes of Warmduscher, Beck, and Metronomy, debut EP Hush packs bass-heavy funk grooves and nuanced electro-delicacies beneath a swaggering glam-pop pout.
Across the 4-song set Le Junk struts, sashays and pirouettes through a quartet of hard love stories, as told beneath the glitter of a disco ball; when he’s not coming to terms with his inner ‘bitch’ and negotiating the horrors of toxic friendship, he’s uncovering stagnant romances or the fragilities that lie beneath even the most calloused of personalities. It’s “a collection of songs that all touch on the theme of denial; denying truth, denying growth, denying happiness,” he explains.
With a sold-out January headline at The Shacklewell Arms under his belt, recent years have seen Le Junk support the likes of MADMADMAD, Alien Tango, DEADLETTER and Opus Kink, as well as receive a swathe of support from key tastemakers Line of Best Fit, CLASH, BBC 6music, Radio X, Wonderland, The Independent, Electronic Sound, Clunk, Still Listening, and God Is In The TV.
Aside from producing and mixing all his own material, he has also worked the production dials and written for new electronic-pop project Almost Nothing, founded by Idlewild frontman Roddy Woomble.
An active member of London DIY/grassroots scene, Joseph also performs alongside White Devil Disco and Joanie.
