city: Brooklyn“There’s a wry charm to Von Schleicher’s exquisite songwriting, often underscoring its sincerity but never
cheapening its quality.” —NPR
"A low-key revelation... It’s an album that fully earns the Harry Nilsson reference in its title, and one that
marks her as a major star in sad-sack chamber pop." —Rolling Stone
"The arrangements—a menagerie of saxophones, clarinets, and violins with the jaunty bounce of guitar
chords—walk a tightrope between the schmaltz of a Herb Alpert record and the evocative swell of Brenda
Lee’s 'Emotions.'" —Pitchfork
“★★★★” —MOJO
"Pilea" is a new single from Katie von Schleicher, out today via Sipsman. It's her first new recording
since the release of October's critically acclaimed A Little Touch of Schleicher in the Night and January's
NPR Tiny Desk Concert.
From the desk of Katie von Schleicher:
"Pilea" is a song about taking care of things that you love, especially things that rely on you to take care of
them. In this case, a pilea plant and my bird Ursula. The music was written around the same time as
Touch but recorded after, and with some of the same players—swapped out the string arrangements of
the record for Alec Spiegelman's bass clarinet. In the end, Ursula did eat the pilea, but I did my best.
