Katie von Schleicher’s new album A Little Touch of Schleicher in the Night is finally getting it's release this Friday via Sipsman. The record is the act of von Schleicher letting down her guard and unwinding her grip. Lyrically wry and classically lush, it narrows the gap between her personality and her songwriting, making it her most untroubled album to date.
Today, following three summer singles and last month’s LP announcement track “Every Step Is an Ocean”, Katie von Schleicher is sharing “Cranked” as a final preview from A Little Touch of Schleicher in the Night. It arrives with a peculiar music video directed by Véra Haddad that blurs the line between reality and television:
Haddad on their creation:
"This video we made for “Cranked” is an abstract exploration of encountering mediated versions of ourselves or our stories – through memory, a reproduction on a screen, or a puppet-self. I found a lot of resonance in Katie's lyrics which flip between rose-colored, hyperbolic statements of beauty or joy and the notion of a truer, 'cranked' world with shadows, conflict and complication. It felt like a really interesting sonic space to parse through the warped mirror experience we are all a part of. We used this additional lens of nostalgia to explore this dynamic through materials and aesthetics that were popular when we were growing up in the early 90's – movies like The Labyrinth with David Bowie, or shows like Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood are major references. It has been a really fun one to put together."
