J. Ludvig lll is the solo project of drummer Jonathan J. Ludvigsen from the acclaimed Danish jazz trio Athletic Progression, with whom he’s toured extensively over the last seven years while releasing three albums. Through his new project, Ludvigsen lets go of his human and musical inhibitions, molding a deeply personal space where bare melodic honesty meets manic and explosive stream-of-consciousness percussion. His debut album, Sadboy Fusion is definitely a complex space but delivered with ease. Born as the third of three brothers his artist name pays tribute to his heritage while pompously summoning the glory of great classical composers or emperors of France. The name rings true, however, with the majestic and symphonic sound of his first solo opus, taking inspiration from niche jazz and soul artists such as Jon Bap and fusing it with naïve pop elements and an uncompromising Kanye West-like vocal production. Ludvigsen's work has granted him multiple Danish Music Awards nominations in the jazz category as well as a nomination by the Danish Critics Award, Steppeulven for Best Musician. He has toured as a live drummer with artists like Erika de Casier and Liv.e, proving him as a genre-defying musician in high demand.
