Greta Isaac will release her expansive new single ‘how are you not freaking out?’ on 4th March, the latest instalment to her eagerly anticipated new EP ‘I Think You’d Hate It Here’ - due for release on 6th May via Made Records. She will headline Jack Saunders’ infamous ‘Hopscotch’ club night at Oslo, Hackney on 8th April and is set to support tastemaker act Dan D’Lion on his UK tour in the run up to her London show.
Teaming up with friends and fellow artists Orla Gartland and Matt Zara to write the song, ‘how are you not freaking out?’ offers a change in pace to the frantic and larger than life sounds found on previous tasters to the EP. A song about suppressing feelings and performing to expectations, it sees Greta open up even more in her writing and go even deeper in her exploration of our often hidden human emotions. It's a song about realising the error in her people-pleasing ways and offers startling imagery to convey the panic when this realisation sets in - “I see the wood for the trees and they’re on fire.”
The song begins with a subdued strummed guitar accompanying Greta’s vulnerable vocals, with its beautiful dissonances tugging on the heartstrings. As the song progresses, so too does it build and eventually release into a stirringly powerful soundscape which is set to be a huge moment on the forthcoming record.
Speaking of the single, Greta said: “I wrote this one with my good friend Orla Gartland and Matt Zara. This song has always felt like a dark, wet, cold suburban neighbourhood. I guess what that brings up for me is the suppression of emotion in a bid to keep up with appearances, or to avoid becoming difficult. And even when you’re brave enough to speak up and be truthful about your emotions, and you’re met with resistance or rejection, you can feel lonely and it can be difficult to trust yourself ever again. To me, this is a song about honesty, anger and resistance.”
Greta Isaac has risen from strength to strength over the course of 2021 and continues to do so as we begin 2022. With support from Radio 1 which has blossomed into an ongoing championship of the “Future Artist” & “Best New Pop”, garnering widespread airtime, she made an appearance at last year’s Big Weekend festival. The support has been paralleled by tastemaker coverage from the likes of The Sunday Times, PAPER Magazine, The Line of Best Fit, Wonderland, Clash and Notion. Her electric amalgamation of pop, folk and alternative rock clearly turning heads. Greta will headline one of Jack Saunders’ infamous ‘Hopscotch’ club nights on 8th April, at London’s Oslo.
