Ahead of a 15 date UK/EU Headline tour later this month [full dates below], Bristol/Manchester duo Getdown Services deliver a full-throttle hard rock hallelujah against the daily miseries of late stage capitalism with final album teaser 'Evil on Tap'
The final track forthcoming debut album 'Crisps' - due 9th November via Breakfast Records (Langkamer) - 'Evil on Tap' is a tub-thumping live-favourite, cloaking it's social commentaries on the incessant banalities of corporate evil under the disarming hooks of cheesy guitars and shout-a-long refrains.
Following on digs at landlords, Jamie Oliver and overly polite waiters, 'Evil on Tap' offers another comically ascerbic side-swipe at contemporary UK culture as showcased across the duo's debut album. Explaining more about the song, vocalist Ben Sadler:
This song is about the nature of repetition and how it feeds into everyday life. I wrote this song when I was in a particularly dissatisfied place. Working all the time whilst still not having enough money to cover the essentials is a fairly standard experience and, as is the culture in the UK, I tend to turn to drinking or reality tv or material goods or whatever as a distraction which obviously only ends up making things worse. That being said there is comfort in repetition and routine, and finding a nice middle ground with anything is important. The world has evil on tap but learning to stem the flow and bend it, much like an avatar, is the key to becoming the master of the elements."
Having received emphatic press support from NME, DIY, Rough Trade, Blogotheque, So Young, Hard of Hearing, Wax, Overblown and Clunk - as well as radio airplay on BBC Radio 6Music (New Music Fix), and John Kennedy's X-Posure - Getdown Services have gone from strength to strength in 2023. Building notoriety on the grassroots circuit with balls-to-the-wall live performances, the band have just returned from a tourdates supporting Fat Dog and The Bug Club, gearing up for a nationwide headline shows later this month.
Sleaford Mods-meets-Peter Kay, debut album 'Crisps' offers Getdown Services' most definitive statement to date. Weaving apocalpytic disco, proto-punk, new wave, krautrock and electro-dance, and characterised throughout by the duo's impeccable turn of phrase, the 12 song set neatly showcases Getdown Service’s giddying knack for marrying astute social commentary within a boundless quest for drunken joy.
