“I think they might be my new favourite band” - Deb Grant, BBC Radio 6Music
"Taking on all that plagues England’s down to earth everyman" DIY
"New Banger" NME
“Groovy, Hilarious…Each time you listen, you’ll find another hilariously relatable line” Clunk
Following the announcement of Headline UK tour dates this Autumn, Bristol/Manchester duo Getdown Services betray their introverted side on latest single 'I Wish It Didn't Bother Me'.
The latest track to be shared from their forthcoming debut album 'Crisps' - due 9th November via Breakfast Records (Langkamer) - it offers is a departure from the electronic influences peppering their recent output, and sees the duo also shed (for a moment) the cynicism and antipathy that often graces their songwriting.
With chugging guitars, melodic stubly, and quivering stylophone lines, 'I Wish It Didn't bother Me' captures a sense of estrangement from the mise-en-scene of everyday life, as one half of Getdown Services, Josh Law, explains:
"This song is about feeling out of my depth in social situations. I think I have quite a negative outlook by nature and this song is about when that makes me feel alienated. It’s about feeling frustrated that I'm focusing so much on the crap branding of the restaurant I'm in that I'm not really paying attention to what any of the people I’m with are saying. That said, being called Sir will always wind me up. It reminds me of people who get off on being treated like royalty by teenagers getting paid fuck all. Being bothered by this puts me on the outside of things at times. I wish it didn’t bother me, but it does."
Having received emphatic press support from NME, DIY, So Young, Hard of Hearing, and Clunk - as well as radio airplay on BBC Radio 6Music (New Music Fix), and John Kennedy's X-Posure - Getdown Services have gone from strength to strength in 2023. Building notoriety on the grassroots circuit with balls-to-the-wall live performances, the band have already shared stages with the likes of Personal Trainer, The Bug Club, Saloon Dion and Public Body, as well numerous festival billings.
Debut album 'Crisps' offers their most definitive statemen to date. Weaving apocalpytic disco, proto-punk, new wave, krautrock and electro-dance, and characterised throughout by the duo's impeccable turn of phrase, the 12 song set neatly showcases Getdown Service’s giddying knack for marrying astute social commentary within a boundless quest for drunken joy.
