Liquid gold is the long awaited favourite amongst Eades’ diehard fan base and a strong highlight in the bands raucous live set. Eades are already used to hearing their fans singing the chorus back to them at shows after a number of fan phone recordings being shared and leaked around the internet.
The new release, lyrically, is a rose tinted memory of many hungover walks from a friend’s sofa to the comforts of home, only to be interrupted by an invitation to join friends in the sun and repeat the night before. A timeless story that Eades know all too well.., but despite the repercussions it never gets old. Possibly Eades’ strongest single to date. It’s relatable, catchy, carefree and a lot of fun! Released via Bam Bam Records. It’s the second single from their upcoming EP coming out this summer!
“leather-jacketed cool” The Guardian Tracks of the Week
“What a brilliant band” The Sunday Times Breaking Act
“punchy and familiar” The FADER | “Get to know Eades” NME
“atypical blend of sun-kissed indie and new wave” DIY
“controlled chaos on a sonic level” Brooklyn Vegan
May 8th - Independent indie rabble-rousers Eades announce the release of new EP Fight or Flight on August 14th via their own label Bam Bam Records. 'Liquid Gold' comes with the news as a single.
‘Liquid Gold’ is Eades at their lazy, lilting best - calling to mind Parquet Courts or Lou Reed in the way the story-spinning vocals bounce off of the lackadaisical guitars.
Transatlantic influences pervade the five-piece’s classic indie sound, glued together by the songwriting and vocal swapping partnership of Harry Jordan and Tom O’Reilly.
O’Reilly began the lyrical process - originating during the pandemic, as he explains:
"Ahhh lockdown 1… such a trepidatious cocktail of seclusion and hopefulness. Everyone started to nervously ask the big questions: ‘how long will this actually last?’ / ‘when will they reopen the pubs? The beer gardens?’ / ‘Will we be arrested for exercising too long in the park?’.
I suppose it’s no surprise I had a look back at some fond memories of leaving a friends house hungover, making my way though the blinding height of summer, passing friends in a beer garden or a park and joining for a half that became many more than the one half.
I didn’t realise it at the time, but it was a reflection on longing, I was yearning for simplicity, companionship and a time before uncertainty. It’s a simple song with a simple message; join your mates for that drink in a beer garden, you never quite know when the next pandemic might be.”
Combining the creative values of Wilco, Sonic Youth and Sparklehorse with the immediacy of The Velvet Underground and The Clash they’ve adapted and evolved over the last couple of years - continually touring around the UK, as well as over the shores into Europe. Their tight self-produced sound, and story-telling approach has crystalised into a winning calling-card.
This ‘build it and they will come’ approach has already seen enviable successes. Photoshoots with iconic photographer Rankin for HUNGER, shout outs from The Guardian, live sessions at Abbey Road Studios, and stand-out sets at Left Of The Dial and The Great Escape, amongst other tastemaker festivals, mark the band out as serious contenders.
No longer green to the industry - and working on their own terms - Eades are putting theory into practice. Comfortable in their own skin, and taking the wins as they come, there’s no lack of ambition to take their riveting concoctions to the masses. All of this is beholden to a quietly confident maturation that speaks to a band in complete control.
Fight or Flight the new EP by Eades - is out via their own label Bam Bam Records on August 14th - with the title-track streaming as a single now.
Eades are Harry Jordan (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Tom O'Reilly (Lead Guitar, vocals), Sam Wilde (Bass), Dan Clifford-Smith (Drums) and Tom Barr (Synths, Percussion, Vocals).
