Alongside the announcement of Debut EP Vegetables - set for release on 20th October - London's Automan today share spiralling shoegaze/grunge cut 'Peace'.
Jangling at the crossroads where bedeviled grunge meets melancholic shoegaze-pop - recalling the likes of Fraulein and The Goa Express - 'Peace' channels both the paranoia of an exhausted, sleep-deprived brain, and as well as their own vulnerability at trying to confront it, as songwriter Freddie Brown explains:
""Peace' channels that feeling of when your brain is so loud that you can't sleep; in the middle of the night, your thoughts are at their worse, and that acute sense of paranoia can quickly spiral out of control. I wrote it in the middle of the night, thinking I was copying Morning Bell by Radiohead. I got hooked on this two chord sequence, addicted to way they don't quite solve each other - just the right amount of uncomfortable."
Recorded partly by Brown at his home in south-west London, and partly with Steve Lyon at Panic Button Studios (The Wedding Present, Prefab Sprout), 'Peace' offers the second and final teaser of upcoming EP Vegetables, a release which digs for self-worth and validation within the pressures and identity crises of modern life - channeling all it's hard-exteriors, while betraying the soft-emotional underbelly tearing up beneath.
Formed in south west London by primary school friends Freddie Brown and Huw Bell, Automan's current incarnation has enjoyed a single launch at Dalston's Shacklewell Arms, a support slot for Black Doldrums, and press backing from Spotify's Lo-Fi Indie playlist, Hard of Hearing, Dansende Beren, American Pancake and Amazing Radio.
Automan are: Freddie Brown (guitar/vocals), Oscar Donovan (bass), Gabiele Zatterin (drums), Huw Bell (guitar/vocals)
