About 'Dreamland'
Dreamland is built from staring out of the window on long journeys and allowing your mind to sift through the emotional baggage that everyone carries. The lyrics act as a stream of consciousness and upfront emotions bleed from the page as vocalist Fred opens up with the type of honesty often only associated with our own thoughts. The track is built around guitars that dance and glisten, adorning the melodic and confessional flow. Drums and a rumbling bass provide a steady rock for the vocal to tether itself to and sparks the connections we all have between our lived in reality and what we thought it would be.
The Quotes
Vocalist and songwriter Fred notes that, "The words to 'Dreamland' were written a long time ago, on a day when I felt real loneliness in a moment on a train and scribbled them down whilst listening to 'This is the Day' by The The. It’s, of sorts, a list of negative moments in time that I experienced. I then of course forgot about the scribbles for some time, only to remember them whilst sat at the piano and rushed through them with some chords and felt quite satisfied with the sound very quickly. I took it to the other chaps and they brought it to life; Oscar supplying an excellent driving bass line; Huw provided an effortless twangy scatty guitar line. We then recorded it and I produced it, aiming for a lo-fi fuzzy, feathery-ness to give it a warmth and nostalgia. We did this in a hope to counteract the darkness of the lyrics. After I found the old photograph, that had to be the album cover. It was off a roll of film lost for twenty years and then developed."
