A majestic ode to the awkward mundanity of twenty-something life, Brighton quartet ladylike share debut single 'Southbound'.
Delicately treading the tightrope between folk, post-rock and psychedelia, 'Southbound' weaves a dazzling, slow-burn epic; its delicate Big Thief-esque reflections deftly churning themselves up into full-blown, psychedelic splendour - via dramatic stops, starts, rises and falls.
Seeking to illuminate all life’s most mundane moments via a stream of consciousness approach to songwriting, 'Southbound' is as abstract and elusive as it is pointedly close to home, as lead vocalist/guitarist Georgia Butler explains:
“'Southbound' is sort of an ode to being in your 20s and witnessing the people around you attempting to find a spot to settle in. It's based on experiences of friends really, and follows a stream of consciousness approach to songwriting where we weren’t entirely sure of the song’s intent until we’d finished it. The song wanders off into sections of internal speech and anecdotes as it progresses.”
Forming in Brighton in 2022 and immersing themselves wholeheartedly in the city's vibrant counter-culture, debut single 'Southbound' - Recorded at Farm Road studios, and produced/mixed by the band's own Spencer Withey - is the culmination of 18 months spent crafting their sound through consistent live gigging.
Featuring on Crafting Room Recordings' Brighton Sound 2023 compilation alongside the likes of local favourites Hutch, Flip Top Head, ELLIS-D, the band have supported the likes Divorce, The Paranoyds, Lorelle Meets The Obsolete, Rosie Alena, and ĠENN, also performing at the Clunk Magazine stage at this year's Alternative Escape.
