Having previously supported the likes of Buzzcocks and already confirmed to perform at The Great Escape and Dot to Dot festival later this year, The New Cut should certainly be considered ones to watch.
Alt-rock quartet The New Cut share the video for new single Train of Thought, taken from their debut EP Merrywood, also out now. This is the first video directed by frontman Henry Gerrard, all shot on VHS.
Henry elaborates "I have a real interest in film-making but have never acted on it before. I enjoyed being an amateur, I enjoyed not knowing what I was doing. A massive thank you goes out to Morgan who really put a lot of effort into acting the lead role in it. I put him in some uncomfortable situations both physically (hosing him down for half an hour) and mentally (kissing a life size doll of his real-world partner) but he took every challenge in his stride and it really pushed this video along."
The New Cut are Henry (vocals / guitar), Flick Case (vocals / guitar), Rachel Parr (vocals / bass) and Morgan (drums). They met during their time at university, where they began writing and creating music together in Bristol. Through mutual influences of the likes of Black Country, New Road and Do Nothing, the band pushed their sound into a post-punk, riff-based direction, allowing them to create tracks that are instant angst-driven ear worms as a result.

The New Cut's debut EP features the track 'Train of Thought', one of their earliest written songs. This is the bands first music video directed by frontman Henry Gerrard, all shot on VHS. Henry: "I had to choose something for my 'final project' for University. I landed on the idea of a music video. I have a real interest in film-making but have never acted on it before. I enjoyed being an amateur, I enjoyed not knowing what I was doing and I couldn't be happier with the final product. A massive thank you goes out to Morgan who really put a lot of effort into acting the lead role in it. I put him in some uncomfortable situations both physically (hosing him down for half an hour) and mentally (kissing a life size doll of his real-world partner) but he took every challenge in his stride and it really pushed this video along. He's a fantastic drummer, actor and friend. I would also like to thank Josie who also stars in the video, Ethan for animating my graphics at the beginning, Emily for helping me with a shoot and Rob for dusting off his old model train set and entrusting me with it. I really hope you enjoy the video as much as I have enjoyed making it.
