‘Effigy’ is the highly anticipated debut album from South London’s Talk Show, out today via Missing Piece Records. The album was produced by Remi Kabaka Jr. (Gorillaz) and follows the release of tracks ‘Closer’, ‘Gold’ and the current single ‘Red/White’. The release arrives just as the band head out on tour across Europe, playing an intimate run of headline shows, dates below.
Four years in the waiting, with "Effigy", Talk Show does more than just push their sound; they completely reinvent it. The record offers up a bold and exhilarating showcase for the band’s dramatic evolution, drawing on everything from The Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy to Nine Inch Nails and The KLF as it taps into a raw, primal sound at the intersection of techno, electronic, industrial, and rock music. The result is an immersive, multi-sensory experience, one that conjures up a dark, sweaty warehouse packed with moving bodies all radiating heat and desire, anxiety and release, ecstasy and desperation.
Speaking about the album, the band say: "It’s been a long time coming but we are all super proud of what we’ve created. It’s bold, energetic and undeniably weird, We wanted an album that grabs you by the scruff of the neck and refuses to let go. We’re incredibly proud to share it. We wanted to create a fictional space for our music to inhabit. Its dark and sweaty walls drew inspiration from a wide range of art, cinema and literature. Musically, each track on the album pushed the boundaries of ourselves as musicians, evolving track by track, part by part. We can’t wait for it to be out in the world and brace yourselves for the live shows, we can’t wait to get on the road and perform it”.
To date, Talk Show has been championed by BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music, The Guardian, NME, The New Cue, Crack, The Independent, DIY, Dork, The Line of Best Fit, Clash, Rolling Stone UK and Wonderland, to name a few. Their intense live shows and ever-evolving output have firmly marked them out as one of the most exciting young bands in the UK.
Talk Show has spent the last couple of years touring across Europe, building an ever-growing fanbase, playing festivals such as Rolling Stone Beach, Best Kept Secret, London Calling, The Great Escape, and Pitchfork Paris among many others, and playing with the likes of Fontaines D.C., Squid, Shame, Sports Team, Bob Vylan, and Fat White Family.
