Brighton garage-rock trio SHADY BABY are set to release their first track of the year on 20th June, the blistering ‘Feel It’.
The release follows news of the band’s appearance at Y Not Festival this year, having been selected by Radio X out of 1500+ artists to perform on the festival’s Main Stage, marking the band’s outdoor festival debut.
‘Feel It’ channels the raw energy and sound of late 90s and early 00s rock, drawing inspiration from bands like The Dandy Warhols, Supergrass, and Smashing Pumpkins with its powerful dynamic shifts and hard-hitting wall of sound, combined with a crisp central guitar motif and radio-ready hooks.
The song was recorded live at Agricultural Audio, Lewes and mixed by Theo Verney (English Teacher, Egyptian Blue, Lime Garden), who has worked with the band on all three of their previously released singles.
Speaking on the new single, frontman Sam Leaver said: “Feel It started off as a song about grappling with impatience, but along the way it evolved into exploring the uncertainties of new relationships. Both themes made their way into the final track.”
Formed in 2022, SHADY BABY were rapidly signed to tastemaker label Nice Swan Records after performing just one gig, releasing their first two singles ‘Come To Life’ and ‘Lonely Town’ under the much lauded imprint. The releases caught the attention of the likes of Jack Saunders (BBC Radio 1), John Kennedy (Radio X), So Young Magazine and others, with sold out headline shows following both at home and in the capital. The band self-released their follow up single, ‘All Too Late’, at the end of 2023, which was named Track Of The Week by The Independent in Roisin O’Connor’s Now Hear This.
SHADY BABY will headline Green Door Store, Brighton on 20th July - the band’s first hometown headline show of 2024 - followed by their performance on the Main Stage at Y Not Festival on 1st August. ‘Feel It’ is released on 20th June.
