Bursting back onto the scene, Brighton garage-rock trio SHADY BABY reveal their electrifying new single 'All Too Late', slated for release on 8th December - their first new music release in over a year.
SHADY BABY’s journey since forming in 2022 has been a rollercoaster of triumphs and trials. Having been rapidly signed to tastemaker label Nice Swan Records after performing just one gig, the band quickly came to the attention of Jack Saunders at BBC Radio 1 and others, placing them on the map as one of Brighton’s buzziest new bands, with sold out headline shows following both at home and in the capital.
However, challenges loomed as a brief managerial stint and the amicable departure of the band's lead guitarist over the summer stalled their momentum. Self-funding their next run of releases during a cost of living crisis meant progress took longer than expected and the band found themselves lost in the throes of modern life.
It’s only right then that their first release in over a year is ‘All Too Late’; a resounding anthem about starting afresh. With searing, call to arms-like lyrics, atop a foundation of powerful, motorik drums, wide-angled guitars and a sparkly, descending guitar motif, ‘All Too Late’ sees Leaver charting a course for the future.
Speaking about the new single, frontman Sam Leaver said: “‘All Too Late’ is a song about looking to the future and wanting to feel in control of your own life. From feelings of being left behind, it was written as a piece of advice to myself to not be stuck in the past, to take charge of my own life and to know I have the power to change it.”
The song was recorded at Agricultural Audio, Lewes and mixed by Theo Verney (English Teacher, Egyptian Blue, Lime Garden), with whom the band worked on their debut singles ‘Come To Life’ and ‘Lonely Town’. It’s also the first single to arrive with a music video from the band.
Using an old Sony Handycam found in a local Cash Converters, the no-budget, high energy music video was shot by friends of the band in Brighton and captures a glimpse of SHADY BABY’s unbridled live performances, for which they have become renowned in the local scene.
The first in a series of releases set to come from the band in 2024, ‘All Too Late’ marks not just a musical return but a bold statement of resilience and determination from SHADY BABY.
‘All Too Late’ will be released on Friday 8th December, followed by SHADY BABY’s debut music video on 11th December. The band celebrate the release with a special free-entry show at The Hope & Ruin, Brighton on 8th December.
