Growing up, Sfven never really saw himself becoming an artist. “I remember when I was younger I thought I had to present myself as a polished, finished full package,” he admits. “It took me a while to realise otherwise.”
The musician’s childhood was soundtracked by the classic music of Neil Young, Eels, and The Beatles, and he played in bands growing up; he originally left home with the intention of studying bass guitar at music school, but ended up following production instead. “I thought, this is wicked,” he observes. “I love the fact you can just do it in your bedroom - you don’t need a studio.”
Sfven’s earliest production work lent heavily into instrumental territory, dabbled in electro and EDM, and featured various mates from music college on vocals as he figured out who he wanted to be; “I never really saw myself as a singer,” he admits. After a few years, he decided to record vocals over a beat, just to see what happened. “ I didn’t sound too bad!” he laughs. “So I thought, I’ll just roll with it.” By accident, he became an artist anyway; doing things completely on his own terms.
Hotly tipped by the likes of Dork and MTV, backed by Annie Mac and Jack Saunders, and currently hard at work on his debut album, Sfven is a one-of-a-kind artist set to make massive waves in 2020 and beyond.
