Accompanying the announcement of debut EP 'Lichtenberg Figure’ - set for release on 16th June - South London’s Sculpture share luxurious teaser, ‘Here You’ via My Life Is Big (Joseph Futak, Hobby Horse), the label founded by rising indie-folk stars Tapir!
Mingling the softest reaches of slowcore, folk and jazz into art-pieces of transient, silvery motions, ‘Here You’ provides a welcoming, yet eerie, first invite to Scupture’s astract, and wispy-edged dominions.
Prompted by a heap of demos compiled by songwriter Ted Mair, featuring members of the Golden Dregs and Qlowski - and produced/mixed by frontman of the former Ben Woods - the group have spent the recent months and years quietly honing their material with a string of successful live performances alongside the likes of Naima Bock, Tapir!, Bingo Fury and Martha Skye Murphy.
Explaining the story behind the track, songwriter Ted Mair explains: ‘Here You’ is an ode to letting go, but never quite falling away completely. Throughout the song, rhythmic solidity is established three times, each time to be let go in place of something more abstract and lonely. Written, on a single day in March 2020, predominantly using double bass and drum machine, like the rest of Lichtenberg Figure, Here You was recorded almost entirely live by the band at HaHa Studio in East London. This live feel adds to the sense of push and pull, with quieter moments requiring intense listening on the part of each band member. Ultimately, the recording is a result of collaboration breathing life into something, elevating its meaning in the process.”
To support the release of the EP, the band play a launch show at The George Tavern on 30th June with support from Joel Burton/Viewfinder + more tba
